Daniel Fast Journey Book

A Fasting Breakthrough for Physical Health, Mental Clarity, and Spiritual Growth

Have you ever wondered if there was a way to jump-start your spiritual, physical and emotional well being?

If you're fed up with going through the motions and not making forward progress, then fasting just might be the tool to unlock breakthrough in your life and help you draw closer to God.

But fasting can be overwhelming, especially if you’ve never done it before and you’re trying to wade through all the conflicting information out there.

Christian fasting is a spiritual discipline that’s existed for thousands of years, and it’s decidedly different than a modern day time-restricted eating diet.

The Daniel Fast Journey book covers the biblical foundation for Christian fasting and specifically the Daniel Fast. The Daniel Fast is a partial fast based on the book of Daniel in the Bible in which you eat only whole, plant-based foods.

In the book, you’ll learn more about the spiritual and physical health benefits, and step-by-step guidance on how to get started fasting for the first time. In addition, the book ends with a 21-day meal plan and recipes to take out all the guesswork of what to eat.

Why I wrote a book about the Daniel Fast

When I started a new blog in 2015, I posted a one week Daniel Fast meal plan and shopping list – and this post took off like nothing else!

Readers were hunting for this practical advice about what to eat on the Daniel Fast and needed help with recipe ideas. They also asked for additional weekly meal plans and whether all the information could be gathered together into one resource, and this was where the Daniel Fast Journey book started!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The book contains a sample 21 day Daniel Fast meal plan with recipes, but you don’t have to follow a specific food plan when you’re doing a Daniel Fast.

The book equips you with food lists and principles to create your own meal plan, or you can easily follow the meal plan and recipes included.

  • While the term “Daniel Fast” is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, there are three instances in the book of Daniel where Daniel fasted or altered his diet:

    • “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.” (Dan 1:12)

    • “So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.” (Dan 9:3

    • “At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.” (Dan 10:2-3)

  • Based on the scriptures noted above, Daniel 1:12 and Daniel 10:2, people have traditionally done a Daniel Fast for 10 days or 21 days. However, there are no rules about how long you have to fast, you can choose a different amount of time. The important thing is that you pray and ask the Lord to guide you.

  • Not exactly, although they are based on similar principles. The definition of the word“diet” is what you eat, but diets are often associated with weight loss or health goals, which is not the primary aim of the Daniel Fast Journey book.

This book is focused on the spiritual aspects of the Daniel Fast, the biblical basis for fasting, and does contain some information about the physical benefits of fasting.

  • The Daniel Fast Journey book contains a list of fasting scriptures from the Old and New Testament and includes a “What to Eat FAQ” in the Appendix of the book.
